Chatsworth Golf Club (DE4 1PT) 10.4 miles (16 mins).

Chatsworth Park, on the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire, is a nine-hole golf course set on beautiful parkland. It is relatively small in comparison to other courses in the area measuring only 5248 yards.

It is a private, members-only club, for members and estate workers only. It is also worth noting that, due to its location, on a private estate, there is no clubhouse, but an application for membership can submitted to the club secretary.

Those who have had the pleasure to play on the course have commented on its quick greens and rolling fairways which provides a considerable degree of difficulty and challenge to each of the holes. Visit their web site


Bakewell Golf Club (DE4 1GB)

The Bake well golf course is a hilly treat so, like everywhere in the Peaks, make sure you’ve got you hiking boots.

Don't burn yourself out attacking the front-nine too much - the back nine isn't any less a test of your stamina, never mind a fine test of your golfing ability that the course poses.

The club was founded in 1899 after the course had been built to specific designs laid out by George Low. It continues to attract the discerning club golfers from all across Derbyshire - and beyond - to its tees. Visit their website


Stanedge Golf Club (S45 0LW) 5.2 miles (15 mins).

Located near the Red Lion pub in Chesterfield, you can find a fine and challenging golf course located at Stanedge Golf Club. It is laid out on some fabulous moorland with plenty of challenges to delight and interest golfers of all levels and ability. Whether you are a low to mid handicapper or a beginner with a high handicap you are looking to reduce, there is no question that this is a course you will enjoy and be tested by.

Although it has only nine-holes, there are variable tees meaning that an eighteen-hole round can be played, satisfying the more discerning golfer, and at 5786 yards long, it is a good length without being too arduous on the legs.

Tapton Park Golf club S41 0EQ 1.4 miles (7 mins).

This is a public pay-and-play municipal golf course. It is exceptionally well looked after and maintained by the tireless efforts of the ground staff and features a whole array of tests on each of the unique holes.

It is certainly a course to be enjoyed, and definitely not to be underestimated.

Birch Hall golf club S18 4DB 3.6 miles (11 mins).

Birch Hall is a relatively new golf club; its course has been developed since golfers first teed off on it in 1992. The shrubs and trees planted around that time have blossomed beautifully making for a course that is very easy on the eye, but challenging nonetheless.

It was laid out to specific designs created by David Tucker and is set on some fine moorland, which is ideal for a round of golf. Visit their web site.


Matlock Golf club DE4 5LZ 8.8 miles (21 mins).

Matlock Golf Club celebrated its centenary year in 2006 and in the time since then its course has become one of the finest in the Peak district in Derbyshire. It was designed by Tom Williamson, and his efforts have certainly paid off, as the course is a fine example of a moorland layout and is enjoyed not only by local golfers but also those visiting or passing through the region.

It is just less than 6000 yards from the tee on the first hole to the pin on the eighteenth. Each hole presents a unique and interesting challenge. Visit their web site.


Grassmoor Golf club S42 5EA 3.7 miles (13 mins).

Grassmoor Golf Centre is an 18 hole course for experienced golfers and beginners to the sport. Neither will be disappointed by the challenges posed by this course. They also have a 25-bay floodlit driving range to practice on. The course itself is kept in great condition throughout the year. Visit their web site.
