Chesterfield Marathon
A cloudy day in Derbyshire is better than a sunny day in the office.

The chesterfield marathon in Derbyshire is being held in and around chesterfield on Sunday 14th September 2014. This will be one of the best events in Derbyshire.

Sunday 14th September 2014.

My work has taken me all around the UK and since 1993, when I left Derbyshire to live in South east London, I have moved 9 times. Chesterfield is by far the best place to live with the best facilities and most forward thinking people (and that’s the truth).

I, like most residents in the area, couldn't believe it when it was announced on peak FH that Elton John was due to perform at the Proact Stadium in the summer of 2012. Then we hear that Tom Jones is to perform in the summer of 2014! Wow.

For me one of the most exciting events (second only to the beer festival!) is the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon which is due to take place on Sunday 14th September 2014 Chesterfield's First ever marathon.

The marathon will be hugely popular with local runners in the area and a massive pull to runners all over the UK and what a fantastic welcome they will get.

If you aren’t from the area and would like help or advice about the local area please do not hesitate to contact us and we will try our best to answer all your queries. Whether it’s information on the best hotel or village B+B or hassle free parking we're here to help.

It's obviously not just about the runners though, the spectators are also promised an equally special day with a wealth of entertainment and activities for all of the family to take advantage of.

The Chesterfield Marathon route hasn't been finalised but it has been reported that it will follow the following route.

The Chesterfield & Derbyshire race starts from Chesterfield Town Hall and runs through the town centre passing the most famous landmark in the area (if not the world!!) The Crooked Spire. Then the runners make their way to Frankie and Bennys  roundabout and down the A617 towards the motorway.

This is your chance to be amongst the first ever people to run along the Chesterfield Bypass, as this will be the first time the road has ever been closed to traffic for a public running event.

The Marathon Route turns off at the first junction and goes through the picturesque village of Heath.

The course then turns towards Temple Normanton, before joining the Mansfield Road through the area called Hasland.

The route then turns towards the Sheffield Bypass, which again has been opened just for runners. The half marathon will finish on the bypass (which is excellent because I live near there and can slope off for a lie down!

The full Marathon course turns left past the Casa Hotel and wanders through Newbold, eventually reaching the Old Sheffield Road.

It then weaves around Sheepbridge Trading Estate and through Dunston Road to 4 Lanes End and left onto Newbold Road. From here goes through to Linacre Road and then down Ashgate Avenue to the town Centre. We then make for the finish in the beautiful Queens Park which is where all the Spectator events are being held, even though theres no reason to have a look at the town centre as it's just across the road.

The prices for the chesterfield marathon 2014:

The full marathon is £35 (The price will be increasing to £45 on the 1st June 2014)

Half Marathon Registration £20.00 below. (The Price will be increasing on the 1st June 2014)

This is going to be a massive event for Chesterfield in Derbyshire, incorporating a fun run, a half marathon, marathon and a massive family event to be held in Queen's Park and if it’s anything like previous events held in the park it will be awesome.

There will be an opportunity to listen to bands, play on the fun fair, spend your pennies at the stalls and end the night with a firework display. It will certainly be a day to remember!
