Walking in The peak District - Near Chesterfield Derbyshire Disclaimer

Without wanting to be a kill-joy, I have to say that the weather in the Peak District can be unpredictable at all times of year. It can also change at an alarming speed. If you intend to go walking you should be well prepared with good boots, weatherproofs, appropriate clothing, water, basic first aid and a means of communication or informing someone where you are going.

Without the proper gear in these circumstances your very survival could be in doubt! Every year people get injured or lost in the peaks, don’t let it be you – always prepare for the worst.

The kit we advise on our pages is not exhaustive, you need to take with you whatever you feel is necessary and take responsibility fot your own actions.

You should have a good large-scale map with you to verify your route as well as a compass for when visibility is poor. The Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure series of “The White and dark Peak” are well recommended. There are two Ordnance Survey maps covering the Peak District (OL1 and OL24. These maps offer good, clear detail and a large-enough scale (2½ inches to the mile or 4cm to the Kilometre – 1:25 000 scale) for walking.

We do have guides who take our walks in the Derbyshire Peak district. These guides will aim to keep all the party safe but cannot take responsibility for any of them before, during and after the guided walk. Walkers who take part in these activities have to take responsibility for themselves, their colleagues and their kit.
